Nurturing Tomorrow’s Nutrition Advocates: ACRIF’s MIYCN Training Empowers Graduates for Community Impact

ACRIF recently embarked on a transformative journey by hosting a week-long training session at its main office hall, welcoming 22 recent graduates and senior students from the esteemed University of Hargeisa in Somaliland. The focus of this intensive training program? Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN), equipping participants with essential knowledge to serve as volunteers in Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) counseling initiatives in Hargeisa district.

The initiative reflects ACRIF’s deep-rooted commitment to empowering communities through nutrition prevention education and promoting healthy eating habits. By collaborating with academia and investing in the next generation of nutrition advocates, ACRIF not only enriches the knowledge base but also strengthens the community’s nutrition education.

During the training sessions, participants delved into critical topics such as breastfeeding best practices, complementary feeding guidelines, and the importance of nutrition during pregnancy and early childhood. Practical workshops and interactive sessions provided hands-on experience, ensuring that each participant gained valuable insights and skills applicable to real-world scenarios.
The engagement didn’t stop at theoretical discussions; participants were encouraged to actively engage with local communities, applying their newfound knowledge to support and counsel caregivers on optimal feeding practices for infants and young children.

As these trained graduates and students step into their roles as IYCF counselors, they carry with them not just knowledge but also a sense of purpose and responsibility towards improving maternal and child health outcomes. Their contributions will undoubtedly create ripples of positive change, nurturing healthier generations and promoting wellness at the grassroots level.

ACRIF’s MIYCN training initiative is a testament to the power of education, collaboration, and community engagement in driving sustainable nutrition prevention initiatives. By investing in education and empowering individuals, we pave the way for healthier, more resilient communities, ensuring a brighter and healthier future for generations to come.
