Basic training for community nutrition workers to provide comminity-based (MICYN)

This report provides an overview of basic training for community nutrition workers to provide communitybased maternal, infant, and young child nutrition services in Burao, Somaliland. The purpose is to identify the training needs of community nutrition workers and develop a training programme to meet those needs. Background Maternal, infant, and young child nutrition (community health workers, CHWS) is an important health issue that affects the physical, cognitive, and social development of children. In Somaliland, malnutrition is a major public health issue. The prevalence of child stunting stands at 48.3% and of child wasting at 15.2%, according to the most recent 2019 Nutrition Survey. This is an alarming statistic and highlights the need for better nutrition services in the country. Training community nutrition workers is an essential part of improving community health worker (CHW) services in Somaliland.
