Establishment of child friendly nutrition site report September 24

ACRIF is implementing a comprehensive nutrition program in Somaliland, designed to address malnutrition and improve nutritional outcomes among vulnerable populations. This initiative is focused on the key districts of Buuhoodle, Ainabo, Oodweine, Burao, Sheikh, and Berbera, encompassing 33 health facilities and 119 community nutrition sites. Running from October 2022 to December 2025, the program provides both curative and preventative nutrition interventions, targeting the most at-risk groups, including women, infants, and young children.

Community-based activities are central to the program’s approach, with a strong emphasis on promoting optimal Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) practices. These include advocating for breastfeeding and complementary feeding, providing home-based food fortification with micronutrient powders (MNP) for children aged 6-23 months, and offering micronutrient supplementation for pregnant and lactating women (PLW). Regular de-worming treatments for children are also provided, alongside cooking demonstrations to encourage nutritious cooking practices. The program integrates Nutrition, Health, and Hygiene Promotion (NNHP) to educate communities, offers diarrhea treatment with oral rehydration salts (ORS) and zinc supplements, and supports immunization promotion and referral services. Additionally, Early Childhood Development (ECD) practices are actively promoted.
