Provision Of Basic Education And Sport Kits To Primary And Schools In Somaliland

With funding from Genel Energy UK, ACRIF implemented a basic education and sports support initiative aimed at improving the learning environment for primary and secondary school students in Baligubadle, Salahlay, Sabawanaag, and Odaweyne districts.

The main objective of the project was to improve children’s access to essential learning materials while also promoting physical activity, teamwork, and student wellbeing. By addressing gaps in basic educational resources, the initiative sought to support regular school participation and create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Each participating student received a prepacked education kit containing essential school supplies to support daily learning. These materials helped ease the financial burden on families and addressed a common barrier that can affect school attendance and classroom participation, particularly among vulnerable and low-income households.

Alongside educational support, participating schools received basic sports equipment to encourage regular physical activity and recreational engagement. The sports component helped promote teamwork, discipline, confidence, and positive interaction among students.

By combining educational assistance with sports support, the initiative adopted a holistic approach to student development. Access to adequate learning materials can strengthen students’ confidence and participation in the classroom, while sports and recreational activities contribute to physical wellbeing, social development, and a stronger sense of belonging within the school community.

Supporting Education and Student Wellbeing

For many children, access to basic learning materials can make an important difference in their ability to attend school consistently and participate fully in their education. Through this initiative, ACRIF and Genel Energy UK sought to reduce material barriers to learning while creating a more supportive school experience.

The inclusion of sports supports further strengthened the project by recognizing that quality education extends beyond the classroom. By supporting both academic participation and physical wellbeing, the initiative contributed to more engaging, inclusive, and child-friendly school environments in the targeted communities.
