Advocating for a Nutrition-Sensitive Education Sector Action Plan.

Advocating for a Nutrition-Sensitive Education Sector Action Plan.

Project Overview & Rationale

Malnutrition severely limits a child’s ability to learn, attend school, and reach their full potential. The education sector often views nutrition solely as a health issue. This project aims to change that narrative. By embedding nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive interventions into national education policies and plans, we can leverage schools as hubs for nutrition. This approach addresses the underlying causes of malnutrition at a critical stage of child development.

 Project Goal

To advocate for and secure the formal adoption of a nutrition-sensitive action plan within the national education sector to improve school-aged child nutrition, learning capacity, and long-term human capital development

Core Project Activities

  • Conduct a gap analysis on undernutrition in school-aged children.
  • Create concise, data-driven briefing notes for policy makers illustrating the link between nutrition and learning outcomes.
  • Develop nutrition-sensitive education sector action plan based on the results of the gap analysis.
  • Support the integration of nutrition into teacher training, primary, and secondary education curricula.
  • Host a high-level advocacy dialogue on nutrition-sensitive education system and secure a joint communique from key ministries.
