ACRIF, in partnership with Genel Energy and CPC Corporation Taiwan, alongside the Ministry of Energy and Minerals of Somaliland and the National Drought Committee of Somaliland, held a press conference to officially announce the launch of an emergency drought response initiative aimed at supporting communities severely affected by prolonged dry conditions.
During the press briefing, it was confirmed that Genel Energy and CPC Taiwan have taken full financial responsibility for funding water-trucking services to communities living around their operational areas. The emergency intervention will reach 103 settlements across Burao, Ainabo, and Garadag districts in Somaliland, where water sources have significantly depleted and pastoralist families are facing critical shortages.
The implementation of the project will be led by ACRIF in close coordination with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals of Somaliland and the National Drought Committee of Somaliland, ensuring effective delivery, strong accountability, and transparent distribution of clean and safe water to drought-affected pastoralist communities.
Representatives at the press conference highlighted the seriousness of the drought situation, noting the impact on livelihoods, livestock, and vulnerable households. The National Drought Committee commended Genel Energy and CPC Taiwan for their leadership and corporate responsibility, describing their support as timely and life-saving.
The Committee further called upon other companies, private sector actors, and capable institutions to follow the example set by Genel Energy, urging them to actively participate in drought response efforts and contribute to safeguarding lives and livelihoods across Somaliland.
This coordinated initiative reflects a shared commitment to solidarity, partnership, and urgent humanitarian action to mitigate the devastating effects of drought and strengthen community resilience during this critical period.
