From May 12th to May 23rd, 2024, a joint team by the African Children’s Rights Foundation (ACRIF), Welthungerhilfe (WHH), and the Somaliland Ministry of Health Development (MOHD) conducted a comprehensive monitoring visit to four health facilities across Somaliland. The primary objective of this visit was to assess the current state of healthcare and nutrition services, ensuring they meet required standards and identifying areas needing improvement to enhance patient care.
The visit aimed to evaluate various aspects of health service delivery, including the availability and functionality of nutrition supplies and equipment, the effectiveness of staff training programs, and the overall infrastructure of the health facilities. By engaging with healthcare staff and patients, the team sought to gather insights into the challenges faced and the successes achieved in providing healthcare services. The joint monitoring effort was also designed to foster collaboration between the organizations, enabling them to share best practices and develop coordinated strategies to address identified gaps. The ultimate goal was to strengthen the health system, improve service delivery, and ensure the community has access to high-quality healthcare.
The additional objectives of the visit included supervising and monitoring community nutrition workers, crosschecking beneficiary register books, and delivering these books along with reporting tools to the target community. The team provided on-the-job training for major areas of program activities and assessed the overall condition of nutrition services at the community level. They distributed some health center supplies and assessed the provision of nutrition services at health centers, identifying any gaps or challenges. The visit also aimed to increase the capacity of Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP professionals at all levels to provide high-quality case management.
Through this comprehensive evaluation, the team aimed to enhance the capacity of healthcare and nutrition professionals, ensuring they can deliver effective and high-quality services to the community.
